Of course you know Memphis has good Barbeque but did you know the music city is known for having world-class steak, too? If you’ve got a hankering for beef set your homesecurityfamily.com alarm and pack up the wife – here are Memphis’ best places for great steak:
Pete and Sam’s – these two have been grilling up chops for decades and it’s their special seasoning rub that keeps the locals coming back. Located in East Memphis it’s out of the glare of Graceland but certainly worth a side trip on your vacation.
Vinegar Jim’s – Some of the best places in town are named after their purveyors and for good reason. Vinegar Jim’s was founded back in the 80s by a guy who knew good meat. It’s in Arlington and you’ve got to get the sirloin.
Butcher Shop Steakhouse – IT’s a great place to go with the non-steak eater in your life – they’ve got tons of great seafood and poultry dishes, too. But the real winner here is the filet, sliced to perfection and served on a plate of sizzling butter – could it get any better?

The Civil Rights Museum is housed at the location where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, the Lorraine Motel. The address is 405 Mulberry, in Memphis, Tennessee. The motel was purchased at a debtor’s auction by a group of concerned citizens. The museum was dedicated on July 4, 1991 and opened on September 28th of that year. The museum now owns much of the evidence of the case, being obtained from the court and the police.

The current exhibits were placed on September 28, 2002, and are called Exploring the Legacy. This 12,800 square foot exhibit strives to answer three questions. The first question is what happened to the Civil Rights Movement after the assassination. The second question examines rather James Earl Ray was the assassin. The third question strives to examine what the movement meant. The museum currently houses a long term exhibit on what it took to build the museum. Most of the exhibits in the museum are done with pictures and drawings. There are very few interactive exhibits. The museum is available to be rented for special events. The museum, also, has special events such as art activities for kids while teaching them about the Civil Rights Movement.

Memphis is known for Elvis, barbeque and the Mississippi River. As a result, there are many recreational activities centered on the river.

The Mississippi River Park, located on Mud Island, has bike trails, pedal boats, and rafts. The River Museum presents the history of the river and displays a scale model of the lower Mississippi River, a steam boat and a civil war gun boat. The park’s amphitheater is a 5,000 seat outdoor venue used for summer concerts. There shops and eateries on the island. You can reach the island by walking over the bridge or riding the monorail.

The Mississippi River Trail is an approximately 3,000-mile bike trail from Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico. The trail around Memphis provides spectacular views of the river. Whether by bike or on foot, visitors can travel along the riverfront, from the scenic running trail on Mud Island to Confederate Park.

Boating and fishing are also popular pastimes on the river. And no trip to Memphis would be complete without a cruise on a paddle wheel river boat.

So whenever you are in Memphis, enjoy activities along the river which has played such an important role in the history of the city.

If you are planning a vacation or on moving here are a few reasons Memphis should be in your top 10, and Beale Street should be your first stop. Beale Street is alive with culture, music, history and don’t forget the barbeque.

As you walk up and down Beale Street your eyes will be flooded with all of the beautiful architecture and culture there is to see. Your ears will perk up at the sounds of jazz, soul, blues and the voices of history. Your nose will be filled with the smells of barbeque, cornbread, collard greens and catfish, but don’t worry about trying a little bit of everything; since you will burn it off walking the 1.8 miles that Beale Street consists of. Although Beale Street is a great time there are so many other things to do beyond Beale Street. Take a riverboat ride, stay in a historic hotel, tour some museums, eat some great food, try a new beer at one of the many microbreweries or visit some iconic homes.

If you are looking to move to Memphis you will find a relatively low cost of living, lush greenery, warm weather, clean living, history and culture around every corner.
